Located on the High Street in Castleford Town Centre, our open-plan salon welcomes dogs of all sizes, breeds, ages, and abilities. From playful puppies to senior companions, and everything in between, we provide a safe, experienced, and compassionate environment for your dog — and a welcoming one for you too.

With over 9 years of hands-on grooming experience, we understand that grooming is more than just a haircut. Every part of your dog’s wellbeing matters — from how they’re handled, to the environment they’re in, to the products we use on their skin and coat. Our holistic approach means we care about their body and mind, and we tailor every groom to suit the individual dog in front of us.

At Big Paws Little Paws Co, education is at the heart of everything we do.

We’re always learning — through online webinars, hands-on training, and working alongside other professionals in the pet care industry. We believe in multimodal care, which means we collaborate with vets, physios, behaviourists, and other pet specialists to ensure your dog gets the best care possible. We regularly share observations and feedback to support your dog’s wellbeing at every level.

What goes onto your dog's skin and coat matters to us just as much as the equipment we use and the way we handle them.

A dog's skin is the foundation of a healthy coat, which is why our product choice is never simply about achieving a beautiful finish.

During grooming we regularly see dogs with sensitive skin, allergies, dryness, irritation, excessive shedding and changes in coat condition. We therefore want products that allow us to choose what is appropriate for the individual dog in front of us.

There is no one-bottle-fits-all approach in our salon.

We consider your dog's coat type, skin condition, age, lifestyle and any known sensitivities when deciding what products to use during their groom.

If your dog has a diagnosed skin condition, allergies or is currently under veterinary or dermatological care, please let us know. 

We're always happy to work alongside the advice provided by the professionals involved in their care as part of our multimodal approach.

We want dogs leaving our salon clean, comfortable and beautifully groomed, but we don't believe they need to smell like they've fallen headfirst into a perfume factory to achieve that.

Dogs experience the world through an extraordinary sense of smell, so our focus is always on effective cleansing and coat care while remaining mindful that what smells pleasant to us can be very different from a dog's experience.

Our salon has always evolved alongside our knowledge, and our latest refurbishment was the biggest step yet in creating an environment designed for dogs, not just around them.

As we've continued our education in canine behaviour, pain, mobility, skin health and holistic grooming, we've become increasingly aware of how much the physical environment can influence a dog's grooming experience. So when it came to refurbishing the salon, pretty wasn't enough. Every decision had to have a purpose.

One of our biggest investments was Floors for Paws specialist flooring, giving dogs a comfortable, secure and non-slip surface beneath their feet.

Floors for Paws is endorsed by Canine Arthritis Management, something that was particularly important to us when choosing flooring for the salon. Good traction can make a huge difference to dogs who may feel unstable on smooth or slippery surfaces, especially our senior dogs and those experiencing arthritis, pain, weakness or changes in mobility.

But supportive flooring isn't only important for dogs with diagnosed conditions. Feeling secure beneath their paws can help every dog move around the salon with greater confidence, particularly nervous dogs who may already be feeling unsure in an unfamiliar environment.

We've also introduced VetRelieve supportive mats and beds, including mats for our grooming tables, giving us more options for dogs who need additional comfort and support during their appointment.

If a dog needs to lie down, they can.

If they need a different position, we'll adapt.

The salon should work around the dog, not the other way around.

Our refurbishment also gave us the opportunity to think much more carefully about the sensory experience of grooming.

We have dimmable lighting, allowing us to reduce the brightness of the salon for dogs who are nervous, overwhelmed or simply benefit from a calmer environment.

Our air conditioning helps us maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the salon, particularly important during warmer weather and for dogs who may be more vulnerable to overheating.

We've also installed medical-grade hygienic wall cladding, allowing us to maintain the high standards of cleanliness and infection control that we expect from our environment.

Our equipment continues to evolve too.

Our Hydro Pro bathing system allows us to provide thorough, effective bathing while adapting the experience to the individual dog, and our professional Double K high-velocity dryers give us greater control over the drying process.

We also have Photizo Vetcare red-light therapy available within the salon, giving us another tool that can be incorporated appropriately into the care we provide.

But perhaps the biggest change isn't something you can see in a photograph.

It's the thinking behind it all.

Every time we learn something new, we ask ourselves:

Can we use this knowledge to make grooming better for our dogs?

Sometimes that means investing in new equipment. Sometimes it's changing the environment, altering a handling technique or completely rethinking something we've always done.

Our salon will probably never truly be "finished", because neither is our education.

As our knowledge grows, The Big Paws Little Paws Co. will continue to grow with it.

We will keep learning, adapting and investing wherever we believe it can improve the experience of the dogs entrusted to our care.

Because this isn't simply a room where dogs come to be groomed.

It's their space too.
